The aviation industry took flight on December 17, 1903, when the Wright brothers achieved the first successful flight of their rudimentary aircraft.

However, as early as 1900, Zeppelin had developed an airship powered by two internal combustion engines, enabling relatively comfortable yet slow, expensive, and somewhat unsafe travel. In 1917, the United States Postal Service pioneered the world’s first airmail service. Then, in August 1919, the first cargo transport was conducted using a converted military bomber.
